Jack Thompson is a full time conservationist and photographer. He is The Wildlands Conservancy's Desert Regional Director and was part of the small crew that established Whitewater Preserve. He manages over 30,000 acres of conservation lands local to the Palm Springs and Joshua Tree areas, lands that are open to the public, free of charge.
Along the path of calling people back to the land, he has worked as a wilderness ranger and climbing guide.
His conservation photography served as congressional testimony in the California Desert Protection Act of 2010's first Senate hearing and has been published by the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, The Atlantic, High Country News, and by The Sierra Club, Pew Charitable Trust, The Wilderness Society and other conservation organizations.
He recently worked with the non-profit Save Our Desert to protect Black Lava and Flat Mesa just outside of Pioneertown. The culmination of their efforts resulted in these features being permanently protected in the recently designated Sand to Snow National Monument.
He lives in Whitewater Canyon.
